Clare's U15 girls face Limerick County in the Gaynor Plate final in Maguires Field Astroturf, UL at 11.30pm on Sunday 12th Dec. As with the U13 team, the U15 girls also had to difficult draw facing both a quarter final and semi final after a 4 game group stage while their opponents were straight through to their semi final. Limerick County won their semi final impressively and are anticipated to be challenging opponents.
Manager Donal Magee together with coaches Mark O’Malley and Johnny Ryan have put the squad through their paces and have been plotting their strategy over tea and doughnuts all week! They are very proud of the girls performances to date and are hopeful that their upward trajectory can continue with some silverware on Sunday morning.
PATHS TO THE FINAL:
Clare lost their two away group games by the odd goal in 3 but recovered to tackle a tricky away assignment in Ozier Park, Waterford in the quarter-final, winning it on penalties. Their home form has been solid, with wins over Longford, Limerick Desmond and Kilkenny and they will hope to transfer this form to UL at the weekend.
Round 1 North Tipp 2 – 1 Clare / Round 2 Clare 2 - 1 Longford / Round 3 Galway 2 - 1 Clare / Round 4 Clare 1 – 0 Limerick Desmond / Quarter Final Waterford 1 - 1 Clare (Clare win 4-3 on Penalties) / Semi Final Clare 2 - 1 Kilkenny.
Limerick County lost only one game in the group stage and had a highly creditable away draw to South Tipperary in their first match who topped the group. They are a strong team and are going into the game slight favourites based on their results so far this year.
Round 1 South Tipp 1 – 1 Limerick County / Round 2 Limerick County 1 - 3 Cork / Round 3 Kerry 0 – 1 Limerick County / Round 4 Limerick County 2 – 2 West Cork / Semi Final Limerick County 3 – 0 Donegal
