Match report
Clare A squad 16s v Kerry
Clare under 16 amber squad began their inter league campaign with a home fixture in Newmarket on Fergus against Kerry.
Kerry took a very early lead they scored directly from their first corner of the day, aided by a strong blustery wind the ball looped over the Clare keeper into the net.
Clare settled quickly into the game and began to dominate midfield, the trio of Bridge Celtics Cormac Byrne, Shannon Towns Luke Keating and Jack O Halloran from Sixmilebridge worked hard to win and keep possession and created some very good goal scoring chances of their own , Tulla’s Sean Boyce, Avenue Utd duo of Ben Skerrit and Kayden Herrlihy coming close on more than one occasion.
Clare goalkeeper Luke Kennedy from Lifford had to be quick off his line to prevent Kerry adding a second, the Clare defense of Luc Fitzpatrick from Shannon Town, Callum Phelan (Sixmilebridge) , Seanie McMahon (Moher) & Dylan Howard (Bridge Celtic) defended brilliantly and were always calm and patient in possession.
Jack O Halloran’s came close to finding an equaliser when his powerful shot from outside the box was saved brilliantly by the Kerry goalkeeper keeping them ahead at halftime against the run of play.
Kerry extended their lead shorty after the restart when Clare lost possession deep in their own half and were punished when the Kerry striker shot and scored from just inside the box.
Clare heads didn’t drop and they continued to play attractive football, they were awarded a free kick which Kayden Herlihy slotted home accurately from 20 yards. The sides were level soon after when Avenue Utds Josh Akinnadge
pass found Cormac Byrne on the edge of the box and his shot found the back of the Kerry net giving Clare a well deserved equaliser.
Once again, against the run of play Kerry took the lead, scoring with a powerful header from a corner kick.
Yet again the Clare team rallied and kept working and pressuring the opposition and deservedly found another equaliser when Kayden Herlihy stepped up and scored his second goal of the day with another brilliantly placed free kick.
Clare continued to create chances to win the game with Shannon Towns Cian Austin and Avenue Utds Conal Casey going close to finding the winner.
