CSSL are delighted to announce that Ryan McCarthy and Donal O’Leary will lead our Kennedy Cup squad for this years competition to be held in UL commencing on June 13. Ryan and Donal have been outstanding for their clubs and county over the last number of years and are key members of this years squad.

Ryan who plays with Ennis Town captained his U13 squad to a Division 2 league and cup double in 2021 and has been incredibly versatile during his time with Clare. He has played as a centre half, centre forward and midfield in our preparation games and has always had a great attitude in games and training. He definitely leads by example and is a very popular member of the squad.

Manager John O’Malley on appointing Ryan as Captain:

‘Ryan is the only member of the squad with Kennedy Cup experience having been a member of the successful 2021 Kennedy Cup panel. Ryan is a very committed and versatile player with a great attitude and can play anywhere on the park. His 2021 experience of Kennedy Cup will be invaluable to his team mates and management’

Donal plays with Bridge United AFC and definitely is the vocal leader of the squad. He is always providing positive instruction to his teammates and is the eyes and ears of the management on the pitch. Donal was an integral part of his clubs Division 1 league win in 2021 and is probably our most combative player, applied with a great passing range and amazing attitude.

Manager John O’Malley on appointment of Donal:

‘Although small in stature Donal brings great leadership qualities to the group. Donal sets the tone in training and matches always, encouraging and getting the best out of himself and his teammates. Donal is a vital cog in the middle of the park for Clare’.

Preparations continue this weekend with Clare hosting our Festival of Football. Clare Team will be in action in Lisdoonvarna on Saturday when we play Limerick County at 13.40 followed by Kerry at 15.15.

On Sunday Clare play Cork at 10.00 in Newmarket followed by Kilkenny at 13.00.

Best of luck players and management.
